Here we go again! Time to plan for another trip abroad with me and a few special friends.

Some of you may recall our last VIP trip which took us all to Cuba. There we met some incredible local musicians, took in historic and cultural sights, including a bit of Havana’s nightlife, and I performed both a public show and a private concert for those of you in our group. Since then, many you have reached out asking where and when we should go next.

These VIP trips give me a chance to meet you in person and share some great experiences together, so I hope you’ll consider joining us.

This time our destination will be the Highlands of Scotland; home to some of the finest whiskies, coolest castles, and most breathtaking scenery in the world. On this trip you can expect the full VIP treatment. You’ll stay in a castle, dine like royalty, and get to choose from a myriad of experiences that include hiking, river rafting, horseback and bike riding, an exclusive workshop hosted by me on photography. I’ll also once again host a private concert for you and our band of VIP travelers, as well as a public performance at the century-old historic Perth Theatre. We even have plans to hold our own VIP Highland Games and Talent Show!

These VIP trips give me a chance to meet you in person and share some great experiences together, so I hope you’ll consider joining us. Space is limited, so let us know as soon as you can if you want to go along.

Cheers!

Overlooking the waterfall is the picturesque folly known as Ossian’s Hall, built in 1757 as the focal point in an extensive designed landscape. Also visit Dunkeld where you can walk along the River Tay or visit the ruins of Dunkeld Cathedral or use the public toilets and get refreshments. The site of Dunkeld Cathedral has been holy ground since about 730AD when Celtic missionaries built the first monastery here. The Cathedral you see today shows both Gothic and Norman influence having being built in stages over a period of nearly 250 years between 1260 and 1501. Very near Dunkeld is the Birnam art centre (opens 10 am) which is home to an exhibition celebrating Beatrix Potter, with a garden featuring sculptures of some of her characters, those wanting a short walk can go and see the The Birnam Oak which is thought to be the inspiration for its mention in Macbeth. There will also be scenic drive past the Meikleour Hedge, which has officially been recognized as the tallest and longest hedge on Earth. With a short stop in the village of Meikleour.

  • Distillery and Landmark Tour

Visit Kenmore, an extremely attractive village on the end of Loch Tay. Kenmore as you see it today was built as a planned estate village by the Earl of Breadalbane in 1755. Just out of the village is the Scottish Crannog Centre, an authentic reconstruction of a Iron Age crannog, perched above the loch on stilts, a great photo opportunity. There will be a photo stop at Fortingall Yew, this tree is thought to be about 5000 years old and has connections to early Christianity in Scotland. It is also believed to be one of the oldest living things in Europe. You will also visit Aberfeldy, for those that want a distillery you can visit Aberfeldy Distillery (opens at 10.00 am), and discover the Dewar family’s pursuit of Scotch whisky perfection in the distillery they built in 1898. A distillery tour includes a tour of the distillery process, a visit to the warehouse, an immersive heritage exhibition, and a single tasting from a range of fine Scotch whiskies. Those who are not interested can walk the Birks of Aberfeldy which is a circular walk originally called the Dens of Moness, and was re named The Birks of Aberfeldy after a poem of the same name by Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns, who penned The Birks o’Aberfeldie in 1787. There will also be an opportunity for a short visit the Highland Chocolatier (open from 10 am) for a quick visit to the chocolate exhibition which gives you an insight into the history of chocolate, the cocoa journey from bean to bar, and the differences between mass-produced and couture chocolates. Or you can buy some handmade scottish chocolate created by Iain Burnett.

  • Dunkeld/Birnam Nature and Zen Tour

Loch an Eilein (loch of the island) is a 13th century island castle, here you can step back in time and retrace the steps of the Highland cattle raiders as you enjoy views of the dramatic and mysterious Highland castle and enjoy the exceptional wildlife of the forest including Red Squirrels and Scottish Crossbills. You can enjoy some of the best walking in Scotland. Sheltered by ancient pine trees. Photo stop of the ruins of the Ruthven Barracks, which were built by George II’s government in the early 1700s after the failed Jacobite uprising of 1715. The barracks saw action twice. A 300-strong Jacobite attack failed to take the barracks in 1745, but a more heavily-armed attack the next year forced the barracks’ surrender. The Jacobites rallied here after their defeat at Culloden before conceding.Visit Highland Folk Museum, here you can delve into the past and discover the real, living history and learn how Scottish Highlanders lived, how they built their homes, how they tilled the soil and how they dressed. Set in a one mile long, 80 acre site, live actors and restored buildings help bring Highland history to life. You can also take a tour and tasting at Dalwhinnie Distillery, set in splendid mountain scenery at the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland at 1164 feet above sea level. Visitors can enjoy The Dalwhinnie Tour which offers visitors a detailed explanation of the traditional art of malt whisky distilling. Ben Folds Highland Games!

  • Highland Games

The traditional Highland Games is a test of speed, strength, skill, stamina and accuracy all of which we have incorporated into the Nae Limits Highland Games, with some good old fashioned fun.  We would split the group up into teams and encourage some friendly competition – with prizes for winning and losing teams. We also supply jimmy hats and face paints for participants to dress up in Scottish style and there will be a piper too. All activities are set up so anyone of any strength or skill level can participate!  Descriptions below are for our non-British Guests.

    Activities include:

    • Tug o’ war – Teams grab each side of a rope and try to pull the other team across a centerline.  Camus once said “The Tug ‘O War is a futile exercise signifying nothing” but he, historically, never tried it.  It wasn’t big in France.  This is Scotland – it’s super fun here.
    • Toss the caber – Competitors toss a large pole (not using full regulation size cabers – those things are huge!).
    • Stone putt – Shot put (throwing a heavy rock made popular in the Olympics).
    • Tyre flip – Contestants flip a giant tire.  While this seems strange we are told it’s way more fun than it sounds.
    • Sheep flinging – No sheep will be harmed in this activity. You actually use a pitchfork to throw bundle of straw over a bar.
    • Welly wanging – Throwing a Wellington Boot as far as you can.  Yes – this is a thing.
    • Clan challenge – A relay race in which you get dressed up into Scottish attire and face paint.
    • Highland dancing – Competitive dancing (best after several shots of whisky).

Camper Talent Show

  • Talent Show

Here’s your chance to perform in front of Ben and your new friends. We want you (solo or with friends) to sing, perform stand up, act out a skit, or showcase any other family-friendly talent. Ben will join us for the first hour of the talent show, so to ensure that he gets to see as many performances as possible, each performance will be limited to up to 3 minutes. The performance order will be selected at random, and signups will be announced soon.

All of our water activities start and finish at our Activity Center which are equipped with male and female heated changing rooms and toilets.  All equipment is provided for water activities, so all you need to bring is swim wear, a towel, and old pair of tennis shoes.

*People weighing over 250 lbs must discuss with NAE limits for evaluation in participating in water sports.
